PASSION FOR PLANTS FOR MORE THAN 115 YEARS
The HARK company can look back on a company history of more than 115 years. Already since 1904, we have worked with plants at the same location in Lippstadt. Until the end of the 1940s, we had produced vegetables and flowers for the local market.
In 1949, Fritz Hark, the son of the founder, laid the foundation stone for today’s company. His good understanding of plants, innovative strength and perseverance were the qualities that characterised him. With the purchase of his first orchid, a passion for these fascinating plants developed, which still shapes us today.
CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION
In 1986 Fritz Hark Junior and his wife Ingrid took over the company. The nursery with a small laboratory gradually developed into a special laboratory for orchid propagation. In response to the enormous demand on the market, we have built over 17,500 m² of laboratory space and air-conditioned chambers since 1999.
In 5 ultra-modern laboratories, 332 clean benches with more than 500 employees produce orchids only. In the meantime, the next generation, Anja Hark-Borrmann and her husband Oliver Borrmann, have taken over responsibility for the company.
In 2012, we began to build a new laboratory in Kalamazoo, Michigan (USA). Since August 2013, we have been producing orchids for the American market on 3200 m² of production space with over 70 employees.
CORPORATE GOVERNANCE
After a generational change in the management, Anja Hark-Borrmann and her husband Oliver Borrmann now run the company. From 1986 until the handover to the next generation, Ingrid and Fritz Hark have had a decisive influence on the development of their family business. Owing to entrepreneurial foresight, the necessary innovative strength and the courage to make trend-setting investments, Hark Orchideen has developed into one of the leading laboratories in orchid propagation worldwide. This entrepreneurial spirit is carried on by the next generation. With the new management, the company is now developing away from pure mass production to customer-specific contract manufacturing.
CONTRACT PRODUCTION WITH PASSION
The main focus of our work today is targeted contract production of orchids. As a partner for gardeners, growers and young plant companies, we plan and produce according to their specifications. For us, reliability, high production and planning security, trust and transparency are the basis of a successful cooperation.
